Aims and Objectives

During the UIS Congress held in Greece in August 2005, it was decided that the 11th International Cave Rescue Conference would be hosted by Hungary.
A study is taking place throughout 2006 focussing on the differences of cave rescue methodology as it is recognised around the world that there are many varying cave rescue techniques and skills.
The objective of this 11th International Cave Rescue Conference is to study the organisational aspects of cave rescue as well as insurance, liability and finance. In particular, there will be discussions on how a cave rescue could be undertaken in a country where there is no official cave rescue team.
Before this Conference, we will circulate the results of the above mentioned cave rescue study and we will use it as a basis for our discussions. We hope that the conference will provide many answers and ideas for cavers and cave rescue teams.

Christian Dodelin
president of the Cave Rescue Commission of the UIS

The location

The conference will be held in the two small villages of Aggtelek and Jósvafõ situated in the heart of the Aggtelek National Park in the north-eastern part ofHungary. It is the first national park in the country which was primarily created for protecting geomorphological formations, surface karst phenomena andcaves. The caves of the Aggtelek Karst and the neighbouring Slovak Karst have featured together on the World Heritage list since 2003. The area is also rich in other natural features, flora, fauna and culture.
